The Windy City.

C2toDS reintroduces wind into the C3/DS game. Using CA 19 as a diffusion system for pressure, “wind” is created. Clouds move in the opposite direction of high pressure areas, as do any other sockobjects from C2 that responded to wind, such as the spinnoseedSpinnomosa  cactus seeds, and wind sock.

While we’re on the topic of wind, here’s a special feature on one form of weather unique to C2toDS:

  1. will you be also doing standalone dispensers for the flora and/or fauna?

One of the biggest disappointments I have is that often times as much as I love huge metarooms I simply can't run them even with 4gb of ram. If possible I'd love to be able to grab parts of them and grow them in places such as the desert terrarium.

  2. Well it's certainly possible I can do that. :) Many flora and fauna already come with their own dispensers in C2, so I'll already have an efficient means of transporting them coded. It'll just be a matter of gathering the code and images, and packing them.

So yeah, remind me later on and I'll do that for sure. :) In fact, I might do that with a few while I'm developing and release them here on the blog as teasers.

In the meantime, Jay-D's Super Food Vendor (found at CC.com) has many C2 flora already scripted into it, such as the Nut, Trumpet, Tomato, Pear, and Triffid. That'll add diversity to your current worlds if you don't already have it. :)

  4. Fascinating. It's so active, it almost seems like a creature itself. Was it hard to code?

  5. Excellent video! I have absolutely no clue about coding, but this looks very complicated and even more interesting. Great work: I'm looking forward to seeing what other surprises you have in store for us!

Just out of curiosity, how did you create your video? I might be interested in creating some Creatures videos of my own, provided it isn't a terribly difficult process. Thanks, and keep up the great work!

  6. I use a piece of software by the name "Camtasia Studio" but there are other free "screen capture" software programs available. :)

I can't specifically endorse any because I haven't used them, but http://camstudio.org/ looks interesting. Just search, "open source screen capture" and you'll find stuff. :)

  7. Thanks! I downloaded Camstudio, and I think it will do the trick! I don't expect to turn out any Hollywood-quality movies, but I think that the program, coupled with Windows Movie Maker, will make for some great video tutorials and updates in the future! I just have to get the hang of it first. Ha ha!

  8. What is this CA 19 you're referring to? I thought it was cellular automata rule 19 but I couldn't find any information on it.
